Interesting project in SL for learners of Chinese that I picked up from Nergiz Kern's Twitter tweet:
The website describes the project thus:
"MyChina Village is the name of an island in the virtual world of Second Life. It resides in the Adult Grid in Second Life, allowing anyone who is eighteen years old or older to visit for free. With partners Avant Assessment and Centric, the Center for Applied Second Language Studies (CASLS) at the University of Oregon created this virtual environment where learners of Mandarin Chinese improve their language skills by naturally interacting with other Mandarin speakers. MyChina Village project (2007-2009) was funded by the National Security Education Program's Diffusion of Innovation grant."
I have just paid a quick visit to the village in SL. It looks very good!
