Language Learning and Teaching with the aid of Technology

Conference on Technology Enhanced Language Teaching and Learning

A one-day conference on Technology Enhanced Language Teaching and Learning will take place at SOAS, University of London, on 12 November 2009:
http://www.soas.ac.uk/events/event53702.html

The focus will be on the following themes in language pedagogy: computer mediated communication; Web 2.0 technologies; mobile learning; and intercultural exchange. It is hoped that the discussions will widen to cover areas outside of the main themes.

I will be giving a keynote on Language Teaching and Learning in Virtual Worlds, beginning at 11.45am. This will consist of a short PowerPoint presentation, followed by a live session in Second Life, which will begin at the EUROCALL/CALICO Welcome Pavilion:

If anyone wishes to meet me there "virtually" it will be most helpful as I will then be able to demonstrate live interaction between avatars.

The other keynote speakers are:

Professor Gunther Kress (Institute of Education, University of London)
The future of languages

Dr Jean Conacher (University of Limerick, Ireland)
ICT and Language Learning (provisional title)

Dr Norbert Pachler (CETL in Work-Based Learning for Education Professionals, Institute of Education, London)
Some theoretical considerations about technology-enhanced language teaching and learning
