AVALON discussion on Viewer 2, 18 August 2010

I would like to thank everyone who attended the meeting on Viewer 2 yesterday evening in the AVALON sim. I know I talked far too much, so thank you for listening so patiently. I hope you found some of the tips useful. I certainly found your feedback useful: what you did not know about Viewer 2, what you like and what you find unfriendly or irritating. I have completely revised my tutorial materials on Viewer 2 to take account of the changes that have been introduced into Version 2.1.0, which was released last month and is now the default viewer for newcomers to Second Life. My materials can be downloaded from Section 14.2.1 of Module 1.5 at the ICT4LT site:

The materials are in Word format, with lots of embedded links to YouTube videos and other websites. This is the direct link:

I welcome feedback. It's a major task keeping these materials up to date, and it's easy to miss something. In addition, Linden Lab is constantly making changes and improvements. The latest big change that is forthcoming is the introduction of a feature whereby you can change the name that is displayed above your avatar's head. See:

Display Names

We also have to bear in mind that the Teen Grid (for 13-17 year-olds) is closing down at the end of this year. Bad news in one respect, but good news insofar as 16-17 year-olds will then be permitted to use the Main Grid, which has important implications for education.
