Hi, I am Luisa from Pisa University, Italy, (http://www.cli.unipi.it/struttura/Members/panichi/index_html/view
) and I am local project leader for the EACEA funded project Avalon (Access to Virtual and Action Learning live ONline). We are interested in exploring and testing the potential of virtual worlds for language education (http://avalon-project.ning.com/)
I have been in Second Life and online teaching since 2007.
Apart from virtual worlds, I am interested in the use of technology in general in language education. I am particularly interested also in Language Awareness (http://www.languageawareness.org/index.php
) and Learner Autonomy.
I am also affiliated with the University of Hull, UK, where I am in my first year of my PhD. As part of my research, I will be looking at patterns of student participation in language learning both in face-to-face and online language education.
My publication I am attached to most at the moment is our chapter on virtual worlds in "Telecollaboration 2.0" edited by Guth and Helm and published by Peter Lang (2010). Together with Mats Deutschmann I am currently working on a chapter for another Peter Lang publication which will be looking at Research methods in virtual worlds.
I will be attending the Eurocall 2010 conference in Bordeaux, France, in September and will be at the Pixel ICT for Languages conference in Florence, Italy (http://www.pixel-online.net/ICT4LL2010/
) in November. I would love to meet some of you in person soon!
