Let's learn to do - Graduation ceremony of the students of the University of Washington

The graduation ceremony of the 3rd class of the Virtual Worlds certified course by the University of Washington on the UW Avalumni island in Second Life was indeed a special occasion on 10th of June 2011 not only for the 13 graduates from all over the world but also for myself, glued to the monitor at 3am in the morning.

The opening speech by Clark Aldrich, author of 5 books about 3D worlds (whose books…

Beatriz, I am a retired teacher of German. I was a consultant to the BBC on their online German Steps course for beginners:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/german/lj

I have links to several other online courses in German on my Favourite Websites page:
http://www.camsoftpartners.co.uk/websites.htm

There are some great German sims in Second Life: Munich, Cologne and Berlin, for example. And the Goethe-Institut has a sim where you can practise your German for free with native speakers:

Medusa's going to be tough to build, but great to play, I think!! I'll have to work on making my movements flow more smoothly...

I enjoy the group very much too and was really glad to learn you were part of it as well.

Thanks for your compliments on my Italian...I studied at a local language school for about 6 years (it's a little rusty, but I find Anna and the rest of the group really supporting so I trust it'll come back..). I know a little German as well, but it's even rustier -and more difficult to make guesses when I can't find the right word! lol!

Keeping my fingers crossed for your body's visibility!!!

Beatriz, Have you made contact with Helen Myers (Karelia Kondor in SL)? She is a member of this Ning and she is also learing Italian in SL. She has produced a great little video of her experiences as a language learner in SL:

It was really nice to see you today! I like playing Medusa (already thinking how I'm going to get those snakes and the egg on my head!!) -and the meeting place is so nice (not to mention the group members!).

I need to work on those dancing steps...the disco was fun! (I think I've created a courtsey bow for my medieval character -it exists, I'm just not completely sure it was me who created it, even though I clicked on create...)

Look forward to next week and starting the dialogues

Hi Heike,

It just occurred to me -I've joined a group called italianiamo on SL and I had my first meeting with them last week. They mentioned another member called Gwen and I was wondering if it'd be you...(there have been so many coincidences in SL for me so far that it just might be the case)

I thought you looked great, Beatriz! I was there too (Groovy Winkler). Sometime you must have a chat with Flopsy Bookmite, my RL wife, who is an expert in female fashion. She has over 30 000 items of clothing in her inventory and often wins prizes in fashion competitions in SL. This screenshot in our Photos section shows here in a dress by Lemania called Another Rainy Monday.

Thanks!! 5 hours is approximate but pretty much correct :-) It was lots of fun!! (I had trouble learning to take off my leather jacket so once I learned that I started again with the body editing -I met a couple of teachers in the process, so it was also interesting from the social point of view...)

Hi, Heike!! I had no idea that was you :-) !! We shared the IATEFL LT-SIG PCE yesterday. And seeing your avatar here inspired me to use mine too (after all, I spent quite some time "beautifying" her!).

Nice to see all the Networks we have in common.
